“Working as an actress, I’ve always done a painting in preparation for my roles. I paint the characters as I create them within myself, both for theater and film or television. For me, Eva Medea, the woman I play in the movie Returning to Lulu, had not only one painting but a whole exhibition. For her, I painted seven large canvas paintings. The characters always come to me in the form of a painting. I see them in my mind's eye, and these particular paintings are made from a workbook I worked on for a six-month period. These paintings represent Eva Medea but are also inspired by the old Icelandic folk tale about a ’Dark Princess’ called Dimmalimm. It’s about a girl who’s trying to become a woman in a world that’s constantly telling her to behave herself properly.”
