Intermediate Oil Painting Course

An eight-week course for painters ready to build on their foundations. Develop your oil painting practice through focused studio work, individual guidance and feedback, while progressing your own painting. Suitable for students who have completed a foundation course or have equivalent experience.
Winter Oil Painting Foundation Course 2027
A structured introduction to oil painting for beginners and those returning after a break. Learn colour mixing, tone, composition, brushwork and how to develop a painting.
Practical demonstrations, individual guidance, all materials and individual evaluations before and after the course are included.

For painters who have completed an oil painting foundation course or have equivalent experience. Develop an independent project with guidance, demonstrations, individual feedback and group critique. Taught in English; worksheets in German.

An intensive week for beginners and returning painters. Learn underpainting, colour theory, composition and glazing techniques, and develop a finished painting through daily studio sessions with individual guidance and feedback.
Afternoon visits to Berlin’s museums, galleries and artist-led spaces provide historical context and contemporary references.

A five-day course for Berlin employees in artistic professions, combining museum research, drawing and colour studies, and the development of an original painting.
Monday — Introduction and visual analysis; explore composition and make preparatory studies. In the afternoon, learn oil-painting methods and colour mixing through demonstrations and practical exercises.
Tuesday — Guided research and observation in a Berlin museum, including analytical drawing. In the afternoon, turn those observations into colour and composition studies.
Wednesday — Develop the museum research into an individual painting concept. Continue painting in the studio, with individual tutorials.
Thursday — Develop the painting through more advanced work on composition, colour and technique. Continue independently with tutor guidance and group discussion.
Friday — Complete and document the work. Present it to the group, take part in professional critique, and evaluate the process and results.
Across the week, demonstrations, guided exercises, museum analysis, observational drawing, individual tutorials and peer feedback support the progression from museum research to drawing and colour studies to an original painting. Participants practise visual analysis, independent project development, explaining their process, giving and receiving feedback, and presenting work.

A two-day studio intensive with artist and author Kimberly Brooks, exploring the materials and methods of solvent-free oil painting.
